Suzanne M. Hunt
Brief Biography
A long-time resident of Princeton, Suzanne Hunt is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, from which she received her degree in education. She is a Learning Consultant, and served the West Windsor-Plainsboro School District for over twenty years.
Suzanne's interest in art surfaced in the early elementary grades, and came to find its most satisfying expression for her in watercolor. Her formal study of watercolor began in 1973 with Judith McNea in Pleasant Ridge, Michigan, where Suzanne lived for eleven years. A suburb of Detroit, Pleasant Ridge had at that time an outstanding Arts Council, with many programs to encourage and instruct local artists. Also, for nearly two decades, Suzanne has participated in the summer watercolor program at Silver Bay, New York, with watercolorist Ruth Strickling, capturing the beauty of the mountains, Lake George and the Adirondack region in her paintings.
Although Suzanne's specialty is flowers, her paintings cover a wide spectrum of subjects such as lighthouses, scenes from the Jersey shore, landscapes of the woods and lakes of the tri-state area, and familiar local historical sites. She has also been commissioned to paint seashore homes and family pets.
Suzanne is a member of the Arts Council of Princeton, the Hammonton Arts Center, The Chestertown Maryland Arts League, is an associate member of the New Jersey Watercolor Society and is a board member of the Garden State Watercolor Society.
Her paintings have been exhibited in Michigan, New York and New Jersey, and many are part of private collections from coast to coast and abroad. Suzanne has been consistently recognized for the skill and sensitivity so evident in her work.
Artist's Statement
In my watercolor paintings, I find great satisfaction in trying to capture the feelings and color of nature and the special people and places that surround me from day to day and in my travels. I prefer painting out of doors and with my subjects live and in front of me, and do so when ever possible. Through the years, flowers have brought me happiness, and the ability to capture their spirit and beauty in watercolor has been a particular joy.
